Toyota Supra 86-91 single aluminum shaft
This is our single shaft replacement for the 86-92 supra, the factory 2 piece shaft is not only heavy but the rear shaft has a tendency to twist up inside itself. The rear half of the shaft is made of 2 different size tubes and there is a layer of rubber put between them that will crack and deteriorate making the rear shaft shorten itself, this pulls the hanger bearing and the trans yoke out causing all types of problems (if you want to check the rear shaft on you car it should measure 25.8 from flat to flat) this 6061-T6 aluminum shaft replaces the factory 2 piece saving about 40% of the weight and is also more torsional saving to the rest of the drive train.
Our Import drag and drift style drive shafts to handle not only the power of these cars but also add to the efficiency of these types of racing. Aluminum has been used in drive shafts for years but most people think its just because they are lighter, Were you aware they are more torsional ? By being able to twist more than a steel shaft it will not only make the ride smoother but it will also take some of the harmful shock factor out of the drive train helping to keep up the RPM, This will also help to save most output shafts and another related drive train parts down the line. The aluminum shaft also has a higher resonant frequency than steel (a steel shaft will act as a amplifier of vibration) a aluminum shaft will deaden the vibration due to its characteristics.
These shafts are spin balanced at speeds of 5,000 RPM, utilize Neapco Chromoly joints and are good to 600 RWHP.
1986-1992 SUPRA STEEL & ALUMINUM SHAFT
DRIVESHAFTS: Changing you drive shaft in a Supra is possibly one of the most noticeable changes you can make in its drive train, the factory 2 piece has a center hanger bearing and every time you step on the gas the shaft moves up and down quite violently especially if you have increased the HP. First a little shaft 101: the factory 2 piece shaft is 21.6lb (86-92) with a hanger bearing we supply both a single Aluminum and Steel shaft for this application before you condemn the steel shaft consider this. The factory shaft weighs 21.6lb our steel shaft is about 15lb and the aluminum one is 11lb. Now the Aluminum shaft will be smoother no doubt, it torsionally twists more (about 20 degrees to the steel's 5-7) but the steel shaft gives you the ability to eliminate the hanger bearing lag with out the price of the aluminum. Were not trying to condemn the Aluminum shaft its great just trying to help customers like you realize, there is a less expensive alternative that will give you much of the same performance.
